Scarves for the Homeless

As part of our Advent Works of Mercy the children and teens in Saint Linus School and Religious Education programs made over 500 fleece scarves for the homeless.  On December 16th families brought socks, mittens, gloves and caps to go with the scarves.   After the prayer service these items were sorted and matched with the scarves so that each needy person received at least two items to keep them warm this winter. . . a scarf plus a pair of mittens, or gloves, or socks or a cap.

The scarves, caps, mittens, gloves and socks  were delivered to four different shelters just before Christmas.

The goal of making the scarves was to not only "clothe the naked" but to help the children learn kindness, mercy, love, thoughtfulness, generosity, compassion and empathy.   An added benefit to the project was that the children learned a skill they can use to make scarves for themselves or as gifts for their family or friends.
